The Petcare Hub Test Kitchen team includes culinary specialists, food stylists, nutrition professionals, and other experts with Bachelor of Science degrees in food science, food and nutrition, or culinary arts. Together, the team tests and retests, produces, styles, and photographs recipes in our state-of-the-art test kitchen facility—often calling on their furry family members to taste-test recipes before we photograph and publish them.

Dr. Tracey grew up loving animals on a hobby farm, and vowed to be a vet by 4 years old. She loves surrounding herself with animals whether it be at work in a small animal hospital in Iowa, or caring for her three dogs (including Jefferson, pictured), and two cats. She loves general practice as she gets to practice medicine through many different facets, but particularly enjoys preventative care, cardiology, emergency medicine, geriatric, and end of life care.

No matter if you're celebrating your pup's birthday, gotcha day, or just want to bake up some scrumptious treats for fun—these cranberry oatmeal cookies make the perfect sweet treat for your dog. Cranberries are the star of this recipe, and the tart fruit offers multiple health benefits to your pup. While these treats appear to be garnished with chocolate, they are actually drizzled with melted carob, a safe alternative. Now grab your cookie cutters and get baking—your dog is sure to thank you for your effort.
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup regular rolled oats
- ½ cup unsweetened dried cranberries, finely chopped*
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup molasses
- ¼ cup coconut oil, melted and cooled slightly
- ½ cup water, as needed
- ½ cup carob and/or yogurt coating chips, melted
Directions
Step OnePreheat oven to 350°F. Coat two cookie sheets with nonstick cooking spray; set aside.
Step TwoIn a large bowl, combine flour, oats, cranberries, baking powder, and cinnamon. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg, molasses, and coconut oil. Add egg mixture to flour and stir to combine, adding water, a little at a time, until a firm dough forms.
Step ThreeOn a well-floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-inch thick. Using a dog bone cookie cutter, cut dough into shapes, re-rolling scraps as needed. Using a fork, poke 4 holes in the center of each cookie. Place shapes on prepared pans, spacing 1 inch apart.
Step FourBake treats for 30 minutes. Turn off oven and let cookies cool inside for at least 1 hour (this will help make them crisp). Lightly drizzle cookies with melted carob and/or yogurt chips and let stand about 15 minutes or until set.
*Do not substitute raisins for the dried cranberries. Grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs.
Treats should make up no more than 10 percent of a dog's daily calorie intake.
Storage: Transfer decorated cookies to an airtight container or resealable plastic bag. Store at room temperature up to 2 weeks or freeze up to 3 months. Thaw before serving.
