Sitter cancellations: Everything you need to know

Sitters on FurPetVo can now cancel a sit directly through the website or FurPetVo app. This update streamlines communication, speeds up rebooking, and brings consistency to how both sitters and pet parents manage unexpected changes.

What’s changed?
Previously, sitters could only cancel a sit by contacting either the pet parent or FurPetVo’s Membership Services team. Now, sitters can initiate cancellation independently — right from their dashboard — without needing to send messages or wait for support intervention.
Why did we make this change?
- Better communication: Pet parents receive instant email and in-app notifications when a sitter cancels — no delays or missed messages.
- Faster rebooking: Cancelled sit dates are automatically relisted and made visible to new applicants, helping pet parents find replacement care quickly.
- Consistency for all members: Both pet parents and sitters now have equal, self-service access to cancellation tools — making the experience fairer and more intuitive.

What does this mean for sitters?
If your plans change and you’re no longer able to complete a sit, you can now cancel it yourself — anytime, anywhere — using furpetvo.com or the FurPetVo app.
Tips for sitters if you need to cancel
- Cancel as early as possible. Life happens — but giving plenty of notice helps pet parents adjust smoothly.
- Reach out to the pet parent first. A quick, kind message goes a long way. Let them know you’ll be cancelling and why — even briefly.
- Add a private note for Membership Services (optional). When cancelling, you can share any concerns about the pets, home, or booking details — just for our team’s eyes.
What does this mean for pet parents?
When a sitter cancels, your sit dates are automatically relisted — no action needed on your part. You’ll be notified instantly, and your search for a new sitter begins immediately.
- If you’ve paid a booking fee, you’ll receive a full refund within 5–7 business days.
- You won’t be charged again until a new sitter is confirmed.

Has the cancellation policy changed?
