How house sitting filled the pet-shaped gap in Bentinho and Capitu’s travels

If you’re an animal lover at heart—and the thought of long-term travel sparks serious wanderlust—you’ve probably wondered how to blend your two greatest passions. That was exactly the dilemma faced by Bentinho and Capitu. Their dream was to explore the world, connect with people across cultures, and live with intention—but they kept feeling a quiet, persistent absence: the warm, furry presence of pets.

That changed when they discovered FurPetVo: a global community where travelers exchange trusted in-home pet care for unique homestays around the world. Suddenly, their dream wasn’t a compromise—it was a seamless, joyful reality. With FurPetVo, they could travel endlessly while being surrounded by loving companions, one sit at a time.

A love story rooted in connection—and reignited by adventure

“It all started in 2007,” they share, “when we met in elementary school performing a play about a famous Brazilian book called Dom Casmurro. We fell in love—but we were too young to understand what that feeling truly meant. After the play, we went our separate ways and didn’t see each other again for 10 years.”

They reunited in 2017, quickly becoming best friends—and after three years of deep friendship, they began dating in 2020. Just two months later, they made a bold decision: sell nearly everything and set off on an open-ended journey around the globe.

“Since then, we’ve been travelling constantly for over two years—discovering breathtaking places, building friendships across continents, exchanging stories, and growing alongside new cultures and ourselves.”

Why pet sitting felt like coming home

Bentinho and Capitu both grew up surrounded by animals—and that daily connection is essential to who they are. On the road, that absence sometimes weighed heavily. “Sometimes it’s hard not to have any animals around us,” they explain. “With FurPetVo, we get to love and care for animals all over the world—not as guests, but as temporary family.”

Their most unforgettable sit: Leyla, Legs, and life in Iznik

Their standout experience so far? A three-week house sit in Iznik, Turkey—a historic town nestled beside a shimmering lake and dotted with Roman ruins.

There, they cared for two rescued dogs: Leyla, a sweet 13-year-old who loved to “sing” along to mosque prayers and nap among flowering plants; and Legs, an independent, calm 8-year-old who brought quiet peace and cherished longer walks.

“Leyla was the sweetest dog we’ve ever met—just looking into her eyes filled us with love,” they recall. “Legs taught us stillness and presence. We talked to them, played with them, and learned their rhythms like old friends.”

Beyond the pups, the experience deepened their connection to place and people. Their hosts—Linda and Gary—became dear friends. Locals welcomed them warmly, sharing stories, traditions, and Turkish hospitality. “Iznik reminded us why we travel: not just to see places, but to feel part of them.”

What makes a great pet sitter?

Based on their experiences across continents, Bentinho and Capitu offer this heartfelt advice:

  • Treat every animal as if they were your own—giving them attention, care, and genuine love.
  • Be responsible and attentive: prioritize their safety, comfort, and routine.
  • Respect the home you’re staying in—keep it clean, well-maintained, and full of care, just as you would your own.

At the time of writing, they were enjoying a cozy sit in Germany, caring for two charming cats named Godofredo and Theodoro—each with distinct personalities and delightful quirks.

Today, Bentinho and Capitu create content across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok—not just to document their journey, but to inspire others. “Our plan is to keep travelling for several more years,” they say. “We share our experiences as nomads, pet sitters, and lifelong learners—because traveling brings us joy, and animals make every day brighter.”
