How to “Brew” 3 Barista-Style Fall Drinks for Dogs

Come fall, we love sipping warm, cozy seasonal beverages from our favorite cafés. And since we share so much—including joy, walks, and even our couch—with our dogs—it only makes sense to include them in the season’s tastiest traditions. With these three DIY, dog-safe, caffeine-free drinks inspired by beloved café classics, you can celebrate sweater weather together—no espresso shots required!

A golden Carrot-Maple Latte served in a ceramic mug beside a happy dog looking curiously at the drink

Created by recipe developer and food blogger Alison Lewis, the Carrot-Maple Latte and Not-So-Salted Mocha Latte reimagine maple pecan and salted caramel mocha lattes—with all ingredients carefully chosen for canine safety. Instead of sugary caramel swirls, we use a rich peanut butter drizzle. Your pup may just sit politely (or not so politely!) waiting for their next “order.”

The third drink—a canine-friendly take on the iconic pumpkin spice latte—was originally developed by Kevyn Matthews of The Dog Chef. Naturally caffeine-free, it features pure pumpkin puree, known to support healthy digestion and promote shiny skin and coat. Who knew autumn’s most beloved beverage could be so good for your dog?

Carrot-Maple Latte

Note: This recipe contains no coffee or caffeine. Never give your dog coffee.

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup cooked carrot puree (sweet potato puree may be substituted; all-natural jarred baby food is acceptable)
  • ¼ cup cooked and cooled oatmeal
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • ⅓ to ½ cup all-natural, low-sodium chicken broth (garlic- and onion-free—both are toxic to dogs)
  • Ground cinnamon and organic whipped cream (optional; avoid sugar-free versions containing xylitol, which is highly toxic to dogs)

Supplies

  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Small to medium mixing bowl
  • Small whisk
  • Serving cup or dog bowl

Makes

2 servings | Prep time: 10 minutes | Total time: 10 minutes

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the carrot puree, oatmeal, and maple syrup.
  2. Add the chicken broth gradually, stirring well until fully combined. Start with ⅓ cup—add more only if needed to reach your desired consistency (thinner for lap-licking, thicker for spoon-feeding).
  3. Pour into a cup or bowl. Top with a light swirl of organic whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon, if using.

All three recipes were reviewed by a licensed veterinarian. They’re intended as occasional treats—not meal replacements. Treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog’s daily caloric intake. Overfeeding treats—even healthy ones—can lead to imbalances or weight gain. If your dog has health conditions (such as fat sensitivities), consult your veterinarian before introducing new foods.
