Supplies You’ll Need

  • An old cotton T-shirt (100% cotton works best for paint absorption)
  • Measuring tape
  • Sharp fabric scissors
  • Chalk or washable fabric marker
  • A pencil with a clean, soft eraser (for stamping)
  • Gold metallic fabric paint (non-toxic and pet-safe)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Lay the T-shirt flat on a clean surface. Using your measuring tape and chalk, mark a small dot exactly 9 inches up from the bottom hem—centered along the shirt’s width.
  2. Cut diagonally from each bottom corner of the T-shirt up to that center dot. This creates a large isosceles triangle—the base of your bandana.
  3. Dip the eraser end of your pencil into the gold fabric paint, tapping off any excess.
  4. Gently press the painted eraser all over the triangle to create evenly spaced polka dots. Vary spacing slightly for a playful, handmade look.
  5. Let the bandana dry completely—preferably flat and undisturbed for at least 4–6 hours. For lasting wear, heat-set the paint with a dry iron (no steam) on the reverse side after drying, following the paint manufacturer’s instructions.

Once dry and set, fold the triangle into a classic bandana shape and tie it gently around your dog’s neck—snug but never tight. Wash in cold water and air-dry to preserve the design. For more pet-friendly DIY ideas, visit furpetvo.com.
