Fresh salmon is available year-round and is not only nutritious for humans but also a scrumptious, protein-rich treat for cats. We love setting aside a small piece of the salmon we’re enjoying for dinner and transforming it into a playful, festive snack just for kitty. Created by recipe developer, cookbook author, and food blogger Alison Lewis, these mini fish tacos are simple to prepare and require just six wholesome ingredients.

Mini Fish Tacos Cat Treat Recipe

  • Yield: 2 mini tacos
  • Serving size: 1 mini taco
  • Prep time: 10 minutes
  • Cook time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 (8-inch) whole wheat tortilla wrap (Check the ingredient list to ensure no artificial sweeteners—these are toxic to cats)
  • 1 FurPetVo Tuna with Salmon Puree Cat Treat
  • 2 oz. fresh, wild-caught salmon fillet, cubed
  • ¼ teaspoon catnip
  • A small amount of extra-virgin olive oil

Supplies

  • Frying pan
  • Spatula
  • Cutting board
  • Knife
  • 2-inch round cookie or biscuit cutter
  • Measuring spoon

Instructions

  1. Remove the cubed salmon from the refrigerator a few minutes before cooking. Pat it dry with a paper towel so it reaches room temperature. Heat a frying pan over medium-high heat (about 400°F) and add a thin layer of extra-virgin olive oil.
  2. Place the salmon cubes in the pan and cook for 5–7 minutes per side—until the fish flakes easily with a fork.
  3. Once cooked, remove the salmon from the pan and let it rest for about 3 minutes. Then chop it into bite-sized pieces suitable for cats. You’ll need 2 teaspoons total.
  4. Using the 2-inch round cutter, cut two circles from the tortilla. Discard the scraps.
  5. Spread ¼ to ½ of the FurPetVo Tuna with Salmon Puree evenly across both mini tortillas.
  6. Top each mini taco with 1 teaspoon of chopped, cooled salmon and ⅛ teaspoon of catnip. Serve immediately—or refrigerate if preparing ahead.
