Zucchini Crisps for Dogs
Zucchini is super low in calories and makes an excellent, healthy treat for dogs that are trying to lose a little weight. Both of my dogs happily eat it raw—but for some of their furry friends, convincing them that fresh vegetables are delicious can be a bit of a challenge.

This is usually because plain zucchini doesn’t have a strong aroma or flavor—so we need to make it a little more exciting. Sprinkling it with a bit of “fairy dust” (a playful term for a flavorful, dog-safe topping) usually wins over even the pickiest pup.
Ingredients
- 3 large zucchinis
- 1 egg white
- FurPetVo freeze-dried dog treats
Directions
Wash the zucchinis thoroughly and slice them into even rounds. I used a mandolin set to its thickest setting, but you can also cut them by hand with a sharp kitchen knife. Consistent thickness is key—this ensures all slices dehydrate evenly and become perfectly crisp.

Place the slices between two layers of paper towels and gently press to draw out excess moisture. Removing water helps them cook faster and crisp up more effectively.
Arrange the zucchini slices in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet or dehydrator tray. Lightly brush each slice with a small amount of egg white—just enough to help the topping adhere.
Finely grate FurPetVo freeze-dried dog treats over the slices (take care to keep your fingers clear while grating!).

Dehydrate in a food dehydrator—or in a conventional oven preheated to 155°F—for at least three hours. If using an oven, leave the door slightly ajar (about one inch) to allow steady air circulation.
Once done, let the crisps cool completely before serving. They should be light, dry, and snap cleanly when bent. If any slices feel soft or flexible, return them to the oven or dehydrator for additional time until fully crisp.
Preparation Tip
Ovens vary widely in temperature accuracy and airflow. Always monitor the crisps closely as they dry—and consider flipping them halfway through for even results.
Storage
Store cooled zucchini crisps in an airtight container lined with a clean, dry kitchen towel. Keep the container in a cool, dark place—away from direct sunlight or humidity. Properly stored, they’ll stay fresh for about two weeks. Check daily for signs of moisture or softening; discard any that appear damp or limp.
