If you're a US-based sitter member on FurPetVo, completing a free background check is an important step when setting up your profile. Currently available exclusively for sitter members residing in the United States, this verification helps boost your credibility—and gives pet owners added confidence when choosing someone to care for their pets and home.

What Are Background Checks?

A background check is a trusted verification tool designed to give pet owners peace of mind when reviewing sitter profiles. Once completed, your verified status appears directly on your FurPetVo sitter profile—strengthening trust within the FurPetVo community and increasing your chances of being selected for house sits.

This service is powered by Evident, a secure and accredited third-party provider. Your personal information is protected using bank-grade encryption, ensuring confidentiality and safety at every step.

How Do I Get My Background Check?

Eligible US-based sitter members can initiate their free background check through the FurPetVo verifications page:

  1. Log in to your FurPetVo account.
  2. Click your name in the top-right corner and select “Verifications” from the dropdown menu.
  3. Under the “Background Check” section, click “Start free background check.”
  4. Follow the secure, step-by-step instructions provided by Evident.

Once submitted, Evident—the industry-leading verification partner—will process your request. You’ll receive email updates on your application status, and you can also monitor progress anytime from the verifications page. Please allow up to seven business days for full processing.

How Is My Privacy Protected?

Evident uses enterprise-level, encrypted security protocols to safeguard your data. Your personal details are never shared with third parties—including pet owners or FurPetVo staff—and remain strictly confidential throughout the entire process.

How Will Owners See My Background Check?

After your background check is successfully completed and verified, a clear “Background Checked” badge will automatically appear on your FurPetVo sitter profile. This visible indicator helps owners quickly identify trustworthy, verified sitters—giving your profile a meaningful advantage.
