How to find a pet sitter, step by step
- Choose your FurPetVo membership plan. Select an annual plan to unlock full access to our community of caring, in-home pet sitters.
- Post your listing. Share details about your pets, home, and care requirements—including photos of your furry friends and your home’s interior and exterior. Specify your travel dates, and applications will begin rolling in.
- Choose a sitter. Review up to five applications at a time and select the perfect match for your pets. If none stand out, decline those that aren’t quite right—then unpause your listing to invite more trusted sitters to apply. You can also proactively reach out to verified, highly rated sitters who align with your needs. Once you’ve found your ideal sitter, confirm the booking, get to know each other, and prepare for your trip!
How to post your listing
After selecting your FurPetVo membership, the next crucial step is creating a thoughtful listing—and your welcome guide. Think of your listing as the “ad” sitters see: it helps them decide whether they’d love to care for your pets and stay in your home.
This is your chance to share what makes your pets special, describe your home environment, and highlight the qualities you value in a sitter—like experience with senior pets, comfort with medication administration, or familiarity with anxious animals. Use warm, clear language and include plenty of high-quality photos of your pets (both relaxed and playful!) and key areas of your home where the sitter will spend time.
Don’t forget to add your exact travel dates—including extra time before and after for smooth handovers. Once live, applications will start coming in.
You can pause your listing anytime to review applications without new ones arriving. Just click “Pause applications.” When you’re ready for more options, hit “Unpause applications” to reopen it to new sitters.
How to review your sitter applications
Great news—you’ve posted a compelling listing, shared Fido’s favorite nap spots and Fluffy’s quirky habits, and sitters are applying! Now comes the thoughtful part: reviewing those applications.
You’ll always see a maximum of five active applications at once. This built-in pause gives you breathing room to read each one carefully—no need to wade through dozens at once. Once five sitters have applied, your listing automatically pauses so you can focus on quality over quantity.
How to unpause your listing and receive more sitter applications
Not every applicant will be the perfect fit—and that’s completely okay. To invite fresh candidates:
- Politely decline applications that don’t meet your needs—for example, if a sitter lacks experience with your pet’s specific medical needs or isn’t available for your full date range.
- Remember: declining doesn’t close the door permanently. You can still message any sitter—even after declining—to ask questions or revisit interest later.
- Once you have fewer than five open applications, unpause your listing to welcome new applicants.
- Repeat the review process until you find your ideal match.

How to confirm your sitter
Found the ideal match? Purrrfect! Before confirming, take time to get to know each other. Schedule a friendly video call to discuss your pet’s routine, any special care instructions, house rules, and how you’ll communicate during your trip.
When both of you feel confident and comfortable, it’s time to confirm. Both you and your sitter must click “Confirm” on furpetvo.com to finalize the booking. (Note: All members except those on the FurPetVo Premium plan pay a small, transparent booking fee upon confirmation.)
Once confirmed, the sit appears on both your dashboards. After your return, you’ll have the opportunity to leave an honest, helpful review—supporting trust and transparency across the FurPetVo community.
