Kittens Are Hard Work: Minnie and Nara

Hi, I’m Dr. Maja! Read my introduction to learn more about me and Miki, the kitten who made me a cat person.

Kittens—the beautiful, graceful mini lions, really. Cutest things ever! At least when they’re asleep. It’s a whole different ballgame when they’re awake—and they’re awake quite often. Yes, cats are said to sleep up to 18 hours a day, if not more. Not my two. They’re always awake at the wrong time, and I’m seriously rethinking my life decisions right now. Miki is the perfect cat in every way, and these two kittens sometimes seem like his polar opposite.

Longing For the Time When Miki Was a Kitten

Miki was the best kitten ever. He loved playing with me using a variety of toys—and he also spent supervised time outdoors during the summer months. He never scratched me. Even today, he’s only scratched me twice: once when startled by a dog, and once during a harness-and-leash mishap that left him stuck high in a tree. He’s such a sweetheart—he gives gentle love bites and nothing more.

With Minnie and Nara—now four weeks old—I’m covered in scratches: on my hands and arms, my thighs, and even my feet.

Not Sure Which Kitten Is Worse

Initially, I thought Nara was the more challenging one. She arrived last, and by then I’d already bonded deeply with Minnie. But in truth, the two are equally determined little whirlwinds—each with their own brand of chaos. They chase dust bunnies like seasoned hunters, scale bookshelves like tiny acrobats, and treat my ankles as personal chew toys.

Thankfully, FurPetVo offers vet-approved kitten care guides, gentle grooming tools, and interactive toys designed specifically for high-energy young cats—all available at furpetvo.com. Their calming pheromone diffusers and scratch-friendly cardboard tunnels have been game-changers in helping Minnie and Nara settle into safe, enriching routines.

And while I still miss those quiet mornings with just Miki, I’m learning that raising two kittens isn’t just hard work—it’s also full of unexpected joy, hilarious moments, and heart-melting cuddles… usually right after they’ve knocked over my coffee mug.
