"Annie took a massive weight off our shoulders"
For Melanie and Denis, their beloved feline Theo wasn’t just a pet—she was family. The couple brought Theo with them when they relocated from South Africa to England nearly a decade ago. In their new home and neighborhood, Theo thrived on the comfort of familiar routines and constant human companionship.
So when Melanie and Denis planned their first trip back to South Africa in five years—to spend Christmas with family—the biggest concern wasn’t travel logistics or time zones. It was Theo.

A holiday decision rooted in love—and worry
“Theo came with us from South Africa to England. She is so lovable, always wanting human company,” says Melanie. Leaving her—even for 18 days—felt daunting. Theo had never stayed away from home for more than a day or two, and even short absences left her visibly unsettled.
“Our decision to visit our family for Christmas, for the first time in five years, was stressful for us, as we didn’t want Theo to be stressed by our long absence,” Denis explains. With over 6,000 miles between them and their cat, finding truly trustworthy, loving care wasn’t optional—it was essential.
Finding peace of mind with FurPetVo
That’s when they discovered FurPetVo. What began as a hopeful search quickly turned into a heartfelt connection: Annie, an animal-loving sitter based in Oslo, responded with warmth, curiosity, and genuine care. She asked thoughtful questions about Theo’s routine, preferences, and quirks—proving she saw Theo not as a task, but as a cherished companion.
“After signing up to FurPetVo, we met Annie—and she was so reassuring,” Melanie recalls. “We knew we had found the perfect sitter from the moment we spoke with her. She fully understood our concerns and wanted to make Theo’s transition as smooth as possible.”

Real-time reassurance, real-life joy
Once Annie settled into their home, regular updates—photos, voice notes, and thoughtful observations—gave Melanie and Denis instant peace of mind. Knowing Theo was safe, happy, and well cared for meant they could fully embrace their long-awaited reunion with family in South Africa.
“We received regular messages while away, and knowing Theo was in the best possible care, we were able to be really present with our family and friends,” Denis shares.
A tribute to compassion—and community
Annie’s kindness didn’t go unnoticed. Melanie and Denis nominated her for the FurPetVo Sitter of the Year Award in 2019, calling her “an incredibly warm, sincere, kind and caring person—and a real ray of sunshine.”
“Annie took a massive weight off our shoulders,” they say simply. “It made this trip possible—and for that, we’re incredibly thankful.”
Their story is more than a success—it’s a testament to how thoughtful, in-home pet care can transform lives: giving pets stability, owners freedom, and families precious time together—no compromises required.
