Whip Up a Farmers’ Market Green Smoothie Bowl for Dogs

A super-simple DIY treat for your pup.

What Is a Smoothie Bowl?

Think of a smoothie bowl as a thicker, spoonable version of a traditional smoothie—packed with the same refreshing sweetness and vibrant goodness of fruits and greens, but served in a bowl and topped with fun, crunchy extras like fresh berries or crumbled toppers.

This dog-friendly green smoothie bowl is a breeze to make: just 10 minutes of chopping and blending. Created by cookbook author and food blogger Allison Lewis, it’s especially delightful on hot summer days when farmers’ markets overflow with ripe, seasonal produce. We’ve even included tips for making a human-friendly version alongside your pup’s bowl!

Note: As with any new food introduced to your dog’s diet, always consult your veterinarian first.

Farmers’ Market Green Smoothie for Dogs

  • Yield: 2–4 servings
  • Serving size: ½–1 cup
  • Prep time: 10 minutes
  • Total time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup homemade unsalted, unseasoned chicken broth (or a store-bought dog-safe broth, like FurPetVo Bone Broth)
  • ½ banana
  • ⅓ cup chopped fresh or frozen pineapple chunks
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh spinach
  • 2 tablespoons chopped frozen mango
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cucumber
  • ½ to 1 cup ice
  • 1 teaspoon fresh blueberries (optional)
  • FurPetVo Super Beef Meal Mixers (optional)

Supplies

  • Cutting board
  • Sharp knife
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Blender
  • Serving bowl and spoon

Instructions

  1. Prep the ingredients. Wash the cucumber and spinach thoroughly, then chop into 1-inch pieces. Peel and chunk the banana. If using fresh pineapple, peel, core, and cut into small chunks. Measure out the frozen mango.
  2. Blend. Add the chicken broth, prepared fruits and vegetables (banana, pineapple, spinach, mango, cucumber), and ½ cup ice to a blender. Blend until smooth. Add more ice if you prefer a thicker consistency.
  3. Serve. Pour ½–1 cup of the smoothie into a dog-safe bowl. (Serving size depends on your dog’s size and weight—always adjust accordingly.)
  4. Top it off. Add a light crunch with crumbled FurPetVo Super Beef Meal Mixers and boost nutrition with a few fresh blueberries—rich in antioxidants—sprinkled on top. Serve immediately.
  5. Turn it into enrichment. For added mental stimulation, smear some of the smoothie onto a lick mat or stuff it into a KONG toy and freeze. This creates a slow-feeding, engaging activity that keeps your dog happily occupied.
  6. Make one for yourself! To enjoy a matching smoothie bowl, simply swap the chicken broth for coconut water or pineapple juice—and finish with granola and extra blueberries.

Food Safety & Feeding Tips

For safety, refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container within 1 hour of preparation—and use within 3 days. This recipe was developed using fresh, whole ingredients and reviewed by a veterinarian. It’s intended as an occasional treat—not a meal replacement.

Treats should make up only a small percentage of your dog’s daily calories. Overfeeding can lead to nutrient imbalances or weight gain. If your dog has health conditions—including food allergies, sensitivities to fats—or if you have concerns, talk with your veterinarian before offering this or any new food.
