Duck Decides to Star in 'It's a Small World' Ride at Disneyland & People Are Here For It

That duck stole the show! Everyone loves Disneyland—and we do mean everyone. Recently, guests aboard the iconic “It’s a Small World” ride were treated to an unexpected and utterly charming guest: a duck, calmly floating along the waterway as if he’d booked his own FastPass.

We’d like to believe the little guy was one of Donald’s distant cousins—just stopping by to say hello. After all, when you’re at Disney, skipping the rides isn’t an option… unless you’re a duck with your own built-in transportation.

The duck was spotted by Lynda, a Disneyland guest who was absolutely delighted to see the feathered visitor gliding right in front of her boat. We imagine he waited patiently in line—maybe even tapped his webbed foot—before hopping (or rather, paddling) into the water with quiet confidence. “No need to find me a seat—I’ll just swim on my own, thanks!”

The duck seemed thoroughly enchanted by the experience, taking in all the sights and sounds—the swirling colors, the gentle music, the joyful international tableau. It truly looked like a perfect day out.

“In another life I’m a Disneyland duck swimming through ‘Small World’ at 11 pm,” Lynda joked in the onscreen caption of her viral video.

Commenters were instantly smitten. “I’d love to be a Disneyland duck—or a Disneyland cat,” wrote one fan. Another teased, “Duck: let me see what all the fuss is about.” A third chimed in, “HE’S LOOKING AROUND AT EVERYTHING. I wanna be this duck in my next life.” And one thoughtful follower offered a suggestion—just in case the duck scrolls social media: “‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ next!!!”

Most Common Wild Birds at Disneyland

You’ll spot all kinds of birds across both Disneyland Resort in California and Walt Disney World in Florida. Wild animals—including many avian residents—frequent the parks without needing tickets, making every visit a potential wildlife encounter.

The most common duck you’ll see is the Mallard—just like our star performer from “It’s a Small World.” Mallards are easy to spot anywhere: near lagoons, gardens, or even bus stops, where they’ll politely (but persistently) eye your snack.

Another frequent visitor is the White Ibis—elegant in appearance but famously curious about food. Though calm and non-aggressive, they’ll follow you with gentle persistence if they catch a whiff of popcorn or pretzels. Best to keep snacks tucked away!

Less common—but still possible sightings—include Hooded Mergansers, Ring-necked Ducks, Wild Turkeys, Pied-billed Grebes, Wood Storks, and Little Blue Herons. You might not spot them all on a single visit, but catching even one is a delightful bonus.
