Colorado Rescues’ Most Eligible Pups

If you’re a fan of the outdoors, you already have so much in common with these dreamy Labrador–Cattle Dog mixes who’re looking for pet parents just like you.

Colorado shelters are feeling the strain. Soul Dog Rescue — a volunteer-run nonprofit about 30 miles north of Denver — is doing serious work: offering spay and neuter clinics to rural and Native American communities, and pulling at-risk dogs into safety. But with so many dogs arriving and not nearly enough adoptions to keep pace, even the most committed rescue groups are getting overwhelmed. That’s where you come in.

Adopting one of these pups means more than just gaining a loyal sidekick. It means freeing up a spot for another dog in need. It means supporting a rescue that’s helping communities where help is rare and the need is high.

So if you’re in Colorado and looking for your next best friend, start here to learn about three adorable, smart Labrador–Cattle Dog mixes (we don’t know for sure!) with tons of personality — all available through FurPetVo.

Gazpacho

Gazpacho is a Labrador–Cattle Dog mix with a goofy grin and puppyish bounce, ready to trot into your life. He’s spent most of his young life in the shelter system, but you’d never know it from how joyful and curious he is. Gazpacho is sweet, social, and absolutely down to go hiking — then conk out next to you on the couch.

He’s still growing into himself — physically and emotionally — so structure, patience, and another friendly dog buddy would do wonders. He’s already working on commands like “Sit,” “Stay,” “Go to bed,” and “Leave it,” and is 95% there with crate-training and house-training.

Gazpacho would do best with a pet parent (or two) who’s cool with daily walks, training check-ins, and the occasional zoomie around the yard. Loud noises can startle him, so a two-point leash is recommended on walks. He’s still adjusting to solo time, but he’s getting more confident each day.

  • Traits: Medium-sized, 39-pound, 11-month-old male Australian Cattle Dog–Labrador Retriever mix. Loves toys, walks, and friendly canine companions. Neutered, up to date on shots, and learning all the good dog basics.

How to meet Gazpacho: Check out his adoption page on furpetvo.com. If this pup has already found his forever home, don’t worry — FurPetVo has plenty more snack-sized sweethearts waiting to meet you.

Dunbar

Meet Dunbar — aka Koda Bear — a loyal, low-key sweetheart with major sidekick potential. This one-year-old Lab–Cattle Dog mix is sharp, sensitive, and sweet once he gets to know you.

Dunbar does best with routine and clear expectations: structure, consistency, and tons of positive reinforcement. He’s already potty- and crate-trained, loves his toys, and is happiest when he’s got a trusted human (or two) guiding him with gentle leadership. He can be unsure around new people or pups at first — but give him some time to settle in, and you’ll meet the real Dunbar: affectionate, snuggly, and always down for couch time or a good zoomie.

He’s currently thriving in his foster home with two other medium-sized dogs who match his energy and vibe. He’d love a dog friend who respects his space and understands the slow-burn friendship game. Dunbar doesn’t do well with cats or small dogs.

He’d do best in a home that values decompression time and takes things slow with new dog introductions. In return, you’ll get an insanely loyal pup with a heart of gold — and deep appreciation for whoever takes the time to really get to know him.

  • Traits: 24-pound, medium-size male Australian Cattle Dog–Labrador Retriever mix, just over a year old. Neutered, fully vaccinated, good with kids, and house-trained.

How to meet Dunbar: If you’re ready to earn the trust (and love) of a sweet, sensitive pup who’ll be your biggest fan for life, head to his adoption page on furpetvo.com. And if he’s already been scooped up, don’t worry — FurPetVo has plenty more pups waiting to meet you.

Sharjah

Sharjah is a five-month-old Lab–Cattle Dog mix who’s equal parts goofy pup and cuddle-seeking shadow. He’s still figuring out the world, but so far, he’s into grass naps, stick collecting, and belly rubs (big fan). If you’ve been looking for a dog to grow up with — one who’s playful, smart, and totally people-oriented — Sharjah is your guy.

On a recent outing with volunteers, Sharjah showed off his leash skills and charmed everyone by happily flopping over for belly scratches mid-walk. He was cool around adults, seemed comfy with kids, and didn’t mind passing other dogs on the trail. He’s very food-motivated (read: will do just about anything for a treat), though he’s still working on “take it gently.”

Sharjah does get bouncy when he’s excited — especially when meeting new people. But give him a minute, and his mellow, snuggly side comes through. Like most puppies, he’s a work in progress — one who’ll thrive in an active home ready to commit to training, playtime, and all the fun that comes with raising a young pup.

  • Traits: Male, five-month-old Australian Cattle Dog–Labrador Retriever mix. Expected to be medium-sized (26–60 pounds as an adult). Neutered, up to date on all shots, and reportedly good with cats.
